Nicole D. Nelson

Nicole D. Nelson is the director and founder of Equity Legal Services, Inc. Nicole has practiced law for nearly a decade, spending most of her career concentrated on criminal and civil litigation matters. Early in her career, Nicole spent her time in private practice in Springfield, Illinois dividing her time between family law, criminal defense, and civil matters.

Years later, she moved with her family to the Metro East area and accepted a position with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office in the Sexually Violent Persons Bureau in Belleville, Illinois. For nearly three years, Nicole worked between St. Clair and Madison County managing this docket and taking a significant number of cases to jury trials within that time frame.

Upon leaving the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, Nicole returned to criminal defense and, most importantly, non-profit work. She successfully managed criminal defense, civil litigation, and consumer matters for individuals who could not otherwise afford to access the court system.

During this time, Nicole saw a tremendous need for increased reflective representation of the diverse communities served. With clients and research bearing out the need for such, Equity Legal Service, Inc. was launched.

Nicole is a volunteer on the United Way Metro East Allocations Panel and is currently involved in providing pro bono legal assistance through the Immigration Justice Campaign.

Dr. Terrence D. Duncan

Dr. Terrence D. Duncan holds a Doctor of Business Administration degree from Walden University. He also holds a Masters of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Health Care Management. Dr. Duncan’s contributions have been featured in blogs and newspapers. Academically, he published in several scholarly journals and presented in respected academic conferences as a panelist.

In 2016, Dr. Duncan published his first book, The Four Fits of Holistic Growth. The Four Fits incorporates 16 axioms, or foundations, to achieve a holistic frame of mind. To enhance the material provided under each axiom, worksheets were created to give a deeper relationship and connection between the words read and the actions created through the worksheets.  Even though this book fits well for individuals for all ages, The Four Fits of Holistic Growth helps provide a foundation for readers to define success at a level that best suits them. As readers continue to read the stories and build upon each foundation, the quest for personal growth and development is accomplished.

In 2017, The Four Fits of Dynamic Leadership was published incorporating 10 axioms, or foundations, to change the narrative of what leadership represents in the 21st century. As the business landscape is changing due to turnover rates, decreased overall employee loyalty, and more available options to employees, Dynamic Leadership focuses on how to attain the best effort and efficiency from employees utilizing a combination of emotional intelligence, team-building, interrelationship skills, and understanding how to effectively yield power in an organizational structure.  The book also focuses on personal growth from within as “development as a leader is vital for the success of your organization.”

As a Divisional Director of Safety and Worker’s Compensation for the largest skilled nursing home company in the U.S., Dr. Duncan has provided numerous training to various members of management to support staff in areas ranging from human resources, safety, enterprise risk management, and policy issues.  Dr. Duncan has given back to the community by speaking at inner-city schools, community gatherings, and featured on a panel at Tennessee State University, as well as University of Missouri-St. Louis Black Student Association.

An avid activist and mentor, Dr. Duncan works with African-Americans in the Greater St. Louis region with Black Money STL, a group that focuses on entrepreneurial and financial efforts of young Blacks eager to grow their branding efforts and understanding the foundations and fundamentals of finance. In June 2016, he was invited to speak at the inaugural State of Black Health National Conference in September, 2018. The Mahogany Legacy Project, a concept the focuses on five key areas of socio-economic growth and development within the Black community will be discussed on a national forum for the first time.

In 2016, Dr. Duncan launched J.I. Enterprises which provides risk management and human resources consultation, as well as providing employee engagement, training and development, and speaking engagement services.  Recognizing the need for cost control, J.I. Enterprises provide clients an opportunity to save on overhead, as well as boost employee morale.

With a passion for life and encouraging others by personalizing his stories of adversity to triumphs, Dr. Duncan provides an up-tempo and engaging conversation with this audience while engaging them to reach their level of excellence.  By personally believing that greatness comes from within, Dr. Duncan continues to engage others in the community throughout the country by delivering a message of turning your dreams into a vision, and vision into a reality.
